Try GNUcash. Talks to all banks. Works!

The banking experience sounds painful, but having watched Quicken and MSFT in a war of attrition (of features, it seems), I have to say that the Quicken product today is simply not what it was 5 years ago even. Run away.

Now, if you were trying to do this on a Macintosh, with Mac Quicken, you would have quickly discovered how futile this all is. And the 6 accounts that can just download data with no problems -- on the Mac, there would only be three.

After an initial infatuation with having quicken download transactions, I am slowly drifting back to entering everything I have from paper statements. This gives me a more direct feel for what the money is doing. However, even if I wanted to download transactions, I would *never* pay for this. That is crap.

Chevy Chase is a reasonable bank. I don't use them for a whole lot because back when I was trying to figure out how to do (for instance) on-line bill pay, Chevy Chase was charging for it. But they have a presence *everywhere* in our area and they do offer free online bill pay now. But they will charge you to use other banks' ATMs, and the interest rate on their interest checking is weak.
