OBJECTIVE

Seeking a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment in which I can
apply  my problem-solving, programming, Linux, and networking skills in a
security-related position.

SYNOPSIS

I have designed, maintained, secured, and monitored a research network of
twenty to fifty hosts, supporting six to ten users with a spotless security
record and operational uptimes.  Additionally, I've supported external users
with programming and research support.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  VeriSign, Inc. and Network Solutions, Inc. Sterling, VA

    Systems Research Manager / "Enabler" January 2001 - Present
      - Key player in getting the first official VeriSign blog launched.
        - Advised internal groups on blogging and blogging software.  
        - Installed and configured software.
        - Helped craft a workflow that balanced the nature of blogging with
          the protective nature of lawyers.
        - Customized plugins to fit our blogging workflow.
        - Trained all parties involved on how to use the software with our
          posting process.
        - Received an internal award for this project.
      - Deployed a bulletin board system for an internal group, replacing a
        similar external system from an outside vendor, saving the company
        $1,000 to $3,000 a month.  Helped train the group and currently
        maintain the system.  Received an internal award for this project.
      - Evaluated, tested, deployed, and maintained systems demonstrating
        various new technologies.
        - IPv6, VoIP, IP-based lawful intercept.
        - Traveled to trade shows to help demonstrate and troubleshoot these
          systems.
        - Helped customers and potential customers interface their systems
          with ours.
      - Designed and deployed a secure, multi-architecture, cross-platform
        package update system.
      - Re-designed network to reduce cost and increase efficiency.
      - Deployed Nagios network monitoring system.
      - Secured, maintained, and deployed Linux and Solaris servers for both
        infrastructure and pilot program work.
      - Adding SELinux mandatory access controls to servers that support it.
      - Maintained and deployed group's email, mailing-lists, web, blog,
        wikis, DNS, time servers, and MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.

    Software Engineer May 1998 - September 1999
      - Developed servlets, CGIs, and other back-end programs and utilities in
        Java, C, and Perl.
      - Helped co-branding partners build interfaces to the Network Solutions
        system.
      - Wrote an example Perl interface for partners to use or modify for
        their own interface.
      - Talked directly with partners to troubleshoot problems with the
        interface.

  PSINet, Inc., Herndon, VA

    Internet Software Engineer, February 1996 - May 1998
      - Developed secure customer-facing account management system.
      - Maintained and modified an auto-registration server and PSINet's
        home-grown back-end customer database.
      - Departmental Solaris system administration. 

    Corporate Customer Support Technician, June 1995 - February 1996
      - Member of the corporate customer support Rapid Response Team.
      - Assisted corporate customers in setting up, configuring, and
        troubleshooting network-related services, such as routing, email, and
        DNS.
      - Development work on Perl CGI to output a platform-specific firewall
        configuration based on platform-independent desires.
